Terrance’s Wine Tour (Vaucluse) May 17-22, 2024

 

About 15 years ago I was invited to an afternoon cocktail party at Nicole 'Poppy' Salinger's Paris apartment and over the years I had visited La Bastide Rose, 'toured' with Poppy, the museum she created to remember her husband Pierre Salinger and sampled Emmanuel's provencal cuisine accompanied by wines from his personal cellar.

Pierre was famous as JFK’s press secretary part of the young leaders of the new frontier. A serious bon vivant and gourmet it should come as no surprise that JFK signed him the task of rounding up all the Cuban cigars before he signed the Cuban Embargo act-several found their way into Pierre’s hands and you will see the cigar box that contained them during our visit.

It is finally time to create a visit to La Bastide Rose

Our Hosts Poppy Salinger and her son, the Chef Emmanuel de MENTHON welcome us to LA BASTIDE ROSE

Day 1

TGV Gare de Lyon Paris -Avignon TGV in the afternoon (not included)

Transfer to la Bastide Rose

Relax and visit sculpture garden expo and the Pierre Salinger Museum with our hostess  followed by an apéritif

The estate of La Bastide Rose houses a restaurant where the chef gives pride of place to regional products, which he chooses every day with care at the local peasant and agricultural market, for the gastronomic pleasure . You will appreciate this cuisine both fresh and refined, comfortably installed on one of the two terraces of La Bastide Rose, or in the winter garden. The constantly changing menus are complemented by local wines, some of which enjoy international renown. Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape have local names that you will love to discover.

Day 2

After breakfast we will be chauffeured by Emmanuel towards Vaqueyras/Gigondas

Visit to Clos des Cazaux à Vaqueyras and a tasting of Vaqueyras and Gigondas

After driving around les dentelles de Montmirail lunch in Vaison la Romaine 

Visit to Domaine Chêne Bleu

Then Chateau Redortier à Suzette vin de Beaumes de Venise

Return à la Bastide Rose

Dinner with 3 matching wines

Day 3

After breakfast direction Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Visit to the Musée du vin Brotte and a tasting

Tasting at Caves St Charles with  Guy Bremmont -vaulted stone cellars

Lunch at the top of the village au Verger de Papes wine included

Visit and tasting at Domaine de la Nerthe

Before returning to La Bastide Rose we will stop for a chocolate tasting chez Castelain aux pieds de Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Dinner with 3 matching wines

Day 4

After breakfast e will go to the marché de Pernes-les-fontaines to shop for the ingredients for our luncheon cooking class

Return to la Bastide Rose kitchen pour un atelier and preparation of lunch

with appropriate wines

then, Relax, relax, relax

Olive oil tasting and apéritif

Dinner with 3 matching wines

Day 5

After breakfast we will go to Isle sur la Sorgue

We will be on our own to discover the village and market

Lunch at a village bistro  au Bistrot du villages des antiquaires de la gare, boissons comprises,

Visit to the antique market (400 vendors)

On our return we will have  guided tour of  Filaventure (Brun de Vian Tiran) -the most beautiful linens in the world 

A festive 6 course farewell dinner with 6 wines and a surprise nugget from Emmanuel’s personal cave

Day 6

After breakfast we will be chauffeured to la gare TGV d’Avignon for our return to Paris
